Material

Every product range includes special grades for processing by extrusion. They are characterized by higher viscosity and melt stiffness in a broad processing window. Extrusion grades with special properties are also available, e.g. flame-retardant or UV-stabilized products.

Makrolon® (PC)

Profiles made of Makrolon® are used in a wide variety of applications. Makrolon® is used for luminaire covers, in particular, because of its outstanding optical properties and its heat deflection temperature. It is also used in multi-wall profiles and connecting profiles of various sizes and geometries.

The branched grade Makrolon® 1243 is recommended for profile extrusion. As a result of being branched, this grade offers a higher melt stiffness, which makes a major contribution to improved sizing.
High-viscosity, linear grades can also be used, such as Makrolon® 3103 MAS157. Both Makrolon® 1243 and Makrolon® 3103 MAS157 are fundamentally stabilized against UV light.
A special weather-resistant layer is applied by coextrusion for outdoor applications. The following combinations are recommended for this purpose:

Makrolon® 1243Makrolon® DP1-1852*
Makrolon® 3103 MAS157Makrolon® DP1-1852*

The following additional grades are also used in profile extrusion, depending on the application:

Makrolon® 3106: Food contact applications (BgVV and FDA grade)
Makrolon® 6717: Flame retardant, transparent extrusion grade

Bayblend® (PC+ABS)

In principle, every Bayblend® grade can be used for profile extrusion. Again, products of relatively high viscosity are best. Bayblend® is used for profiles in the automotive industry, as well as for profiles in the electrical installation sector, e.g. for cable ducts and busbars. Grade Bayblend® FR 3030 is recommended for standard applications.
