Bayer MaterialScience (BMS) is committed to building a strong partnership with customers and distributors by providing safety and technical information to improve product handling and use practices. Food contact applications are subject to specific
regulations in all major regions globally (see examples below).
BMS has developed special grades („food contact“ grades), which
may be used for the manufacture of articles intended to come into
contact with foodstuffs as outlined in our respective
declarations. You may have access to such declarations via the
list of major grades below. In case you have questions on the declaration or wish to receive information about the suitability of other products (grade/colour combinations) for food contact use, please contact productsafety@bayermaterialscience.com. Please be aware, that it is the responsibility of the user of our products, who manufactures materials or articles intended for food contact or brings them into contact with food, to assure their compliance with limits and other provisions set by the applicable regulations.
EUIn the EU the so-called Framework Regulation (EC)
1935/2004 defines basic requirements for materials and articles
intended for contact with food. The EU Directive 2002/72/EC (and
amendments) provides specific provisions on plastic materials and
articles intended to come into contact with foodstuffs. It
contains for example lists of monomers and additives exclusively
allowed for the manufacture of the plastic materials or articles.
Monomers and additives may have restrictions on the permitted
quantity of residuals in the article or on the specific migration
into food. page [1] [2]
