[Operation boxes for ophthalmic surgery scalpels in
Apec® 1745]
OEM: Grieshaber & Co AG, Schaffhausen (CH)
Supplier: Renggli, Schaffhausen (CH)
Industry sector: Other packaging
Part design:
Safety in the operating theater …
...with operation boxes in transparent Apec® 1745
offering a high heat resistance.
Particularly
stringent requirements are placed on the secure transport, careful
storage and easy handling of scalpels in ophthalmic surgery. The
scalpels are first packed in the boxes in blister packs and these
are then sterilized by gamma rays. After the scalpels have been
used for the first time, they are placed in the
boxes
made of Apec® 1745 once again
and subsequently sterilized with superheated steam at 134 °C in an
autoclave.
The superheated steam
sterilization process can be repeated up to 10 times with the
scalpels and the boxes being sterilized together. The requirement
for accurate scalpel positioning calls for excellent dimensional
stability, a high and lasting material rigidity and good
sterilization resistance to gamma rays and superheated
steam.
These boxes are produced by the
Renggli company and distributed by Grieshaber & Co. AG.
Further applications are planned for the medical sector that can
only be achieved with the specific property combination offered by
this material.
Apec® 1745 also
fulfils the requirements for tissue contact of up to 30 days as
specified in ISO 10993-1.
